The Crescendo Club - Our Monthly Giving Program

The Crescendo Club is a special community of people committed to meeting the greatest needs of Chamber Music Hawai‘i. A monthly donation provides sustained support and creates innovative avenues to present chamber music to the people of Hawai‘i and beyond.

Unique benefits are available exclusively for Crescendo Club members. Your ongoing support enriches Hawai‘i’s cultural life and ensures that CMH continues to share the joy of music with thousands of concert-goers and students for another 40 years!

Community Giving Programs

Chamber Music Hawai‘i is proud to partner with three community programs that make it easy for our audiences, families and friends to donate where you shop and work.

The annual “GIVE ALOHA” campaign at Foodland stores is an easy way to help CMH while grocery shopping. Simply use your Maika‘i card at the checkout register to make a donation of up to $249 to CMH (code #77716) and know that Foodland and Western Union together will add a % matching gift to CMH in your name!

This campaign runs from September 1 to September 30 every year at every Foodland, Sack N Save and Foodland Farms grocery store around the state.

The donation amount and name of our organization will appear on your receipt. Donor names will not be released to us. If you make a gift, please call us or send a copy of the receipt so we can acknowledge your generosity.

CMH is a designated Partner Agency in the AUW Donor Choice program (code #80550). By giving through Donor Choice you can participate in your firm’s campaign and be assured that your entire gift is designated for Chamber Music Hawai‘i. Your donation may be a one-time gift or payroll deduction – it’s all good.

Leave a Legacy – CMH Endowment Fund

Did you know that CMH was the first chamber music organization in the United States to establish its own endowment fund?

With a long-term view toward financial stability, the larger the endowment, the healthier the organization. Beneficial in many ways, a small percentage of endowment interest earnings can be made available annually to balance the budget, if needed. It gives us the financial security to sometimes be daring.

Planned gifts are a win-win: you create a lasting legacy and so does the organization you support.

Consider, for example, donating an insurance policy, IRA, or other assets to the Endowment Fund. Appreciated stock is always appreciated; as is a checking account, a gift of your home or business property. Many planned giving options offer generous tax benefits as well.
Whether it’s naming CMH as a beneficiary of your will, a life insurance policy or other liquid or non-liquid assets, we encourage you to consult with your financial advisor to discuss the options.
In 2018 CMH became a member of Hawai‘i Community Foundation’s Hawai‘i Legacy Giving Campaign, joining more than 100 nonprofit organizations statewide.
The group effort is designed to increase philanthropy throughout the Hawaiian Islands by making it easy for individuals to see the many ways planned giving can support their highest ideals and dreams.

Let’s start a conversation about the many ways you can create your own legacy as our partner. Call 808-722-0172 to find out more.

Tax-wise Ways to Give to Chamber Music Hawai‘i

Make a Gift at Reduced Cost with Appreciated Securities

If you have stock or mutual funds that you have owned for more than one year, that pay you little or nothing, but are worth more than you paid for them, contributing some of these securities to CMH may help you save on your taxes with little impact on your current income. Giving appreciated securities directly to charities instead of cash can result in a double tax benefit that reduces the cost of your gift:
  • A federal income tax deduction for the full fair market value, if you itemize deductions
  • No tax owed on the capital gain you would pay if you sold them
If you like, you can use the cash you would have donated to repurchase the securities and enjoy a higher cost basis.

To make a gift of securities, please have your broker contact Audra Stevenson at Merrill Lynch at 808-525-7302 for instructions.

Giving from an IRA

If you like, you can use the cash you would have donated to repurchase the securities and enjoy a higher cost basis.
If you are 70½ or older and have an individual retirement account (IRA), you have to take a required minimum distribution from the account every year, which is taxable income to you. Alternatively, you can authorize charitable gifts directly from your IRA to one or more charities, like CMH, and have those charitable gifts count as part of your required minimum distribution, but not as taxable income to you. This is a very tax-wise way to make your charitable contributions, especially if you don’t itemize deductions on your tax return.
The annual limit for an individual to give to charities in this way is $100,000. These charitable distributions must go directly from your IRA to the charities. If you withdraw the funds yourself and donate them, they will count as income to you and could increase your taxes. Therefore, please ask your account administrator to send your contributions directly to the charities you wish to support.

For CMH the address is: General Manager, Chamber Music Hawai‘i, P.O. Box 61939, Honolulu, HI 96839.

Thank you very much for considering support for CMH!
